The Lord of the Rings: The Story of Rohan – Another film in the making

“The horn of Helm Hammerhands should resound in the gorge – for the very last time” – these words were spoken by King Théoden in “The Lord of the Rings – The Two Towers”. Now the life of Hammerhand is to be examined in more detail.

The journey to Middle-earth continues: As New Line Cinema announced in a press release, work is currently being carried out on another film from Tolkien’s fantasy world – apart from the series produced by Amazon Prime. The film, titled “The War of Rohirrim”, will tell the story of Helm Hammerhand, the ninth king of Rohan.

“The Lord of the Rings” – Another film adaptation is being pushed ahead

As the studio further announced, “The War of Rohirrim” will not be a blockbuster like the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Rather, the film will be an anime, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, who, among other things, has already overseen “Ghost in the Shell” and is currently still working on a “Blade Runner” anime series.

With the story of Helm Hammerhand it is already clear that the Hornburg, which in “The Lord of the Rings – The Two Towers” was defended from the Uruk-Hais from Isengard with great losses, will be shown again. Hammerhand and his people holed up there, about 280 years before the events of the War of the Ring. At that time they fled from the Dunlanders. In the second film, Saruman exploits her conflict with the Rohirrim to incite them against Théoden. Helm Hammerhand got his name when he killed the Dunlander King Freca with a punch.

Philippa Boyens, who wrote the scripts for “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” together with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, will be the adviser to the project. “The War of Rohirrim” should then appear in the cinema. When exactly, however, is still unclear. Amazon Prime is currently working on a Middle-earth series in parallel. In it, however, the events of the Second Age are taken up, which took place several thousand 1000 years before Helm Hammerhands.
